The character knows the clue; has the player earned it?
In an original adult exploration story, a caretaker knows where three trail markers are hidden. The player must locate all three before receiving the route home.
“Three markers exist” is a background fact. “The player has found two distinct markers” is changing progress. Remembering the first does not prove that the second was counted correctly.
Anione’s home FAQ describes scenario context and saved facts, claiming that up to ten relevant facts can be recalled for a reply. That is relevant to a continuing character who should know the setting or an earlier agreement. It does not, by itself, document a rule that checks which player action earned a point.
Rochat’s AI AVG guide documents objectives, scenes and integer state, including exactly one success value and at least one failure value. That is the more specific authoring evidence when the ending depends on progress.
Design the smallest useful state
A proposed first version can use a success value, MarkersFound, from zero through three. Each newly found marker adds one; mentioning the same marker twice adds nothing. Success at three leads to the route-home scene. Add a separately named failure value, RouteAbandoned, from zero to one when the player explicitly leaves before completing the route. That failure target ends the attempt. This maps the example to the guide’s requirement for one success value and at least one failure value.
These are our design rules, not a tested Rochat preset. Before adding more locations, check the edge cases:
- Can the player gain a point merely by saying “I found it” without the required event?
- Does returning to the first marker count twice?
- Does the final scene trigger while one marker remains undiscovered?
Rochat’s own guide warns that values may change unexpectedly when rules need more detail. A written counter is not evidence of exact execution.
When Anione’s continuity is the better-sized job
If the scene is an open conversation with the caretaker, no score may be needed. Save stable context such as the adult roles, the agreed destination and the current unfinished decision. Anione’s character chat, images, animation and calls matter when you want that continuing identity across those activities.
Do not fill the saved facts with every possible ending. Background facts should help the next reply; they should not pre-complete the player’s work. Anione’s image and call allowances are a separate resource choice, including a published three-month subscription minimum.
Choose based on what must persist: knowledge for an ongoing conversation, or causal progress for an objective-driven story. Both require checking the resulting replies, but only the Rochat source set here documents the explicit success/failure authoring needed by this particular game.
