Both can be interactive; the rule is the difference
DreamPress is not only a prose generator. Its official Roleplay AI Chat page describes selecting a role and setting, responding in character and shaping a story through actions and consequences. Those claims make a simple “Rochat for interaction, DreamPress for writing” division misleading.
The narrower difference is documentation. Rochat’s AI AVG guide specifies objectives, scenes and integer success/failure values. DreamPress’s cited roleplay page describes evolving narrative but does not establish an equivalent numeric-rule editor.
Convert an outline into conditions
Suppose your original rescue outline says: an adult engineer repairs a mountain station’s transmitter; the crew receives a message and evacuates before the storm. As prose, the author can choose that outcome. As a playable scene, announcing the repair regardless of what the player did removes the central choice.
Rewrite the outline as a small design:
| Fixed draft event | Playable version |
|---|---|
| The engineer repairs the transmitter | Repair is an action the player can attempt |
| The crew receives the message | Success follows the completed repair condition |
| Everyone evacuates | Ending describes the consequence of success |
| The storm closes the route | A defined failure condition produces a different ending |
The player can now choose a different action without the narrative pretending the repair happened anyway. This is an original design exercise, not an official preset.
For Rochat, define one integer success value and at least one failure value, then make the final scenes correspond to them. Do not award progress for unrelated conversation. Check both “repair completed” and “repair never attempted” paths.
Use DreamPress for exploration without mistaking it for validation
A DreamPress roleplay can help explore why the engineer might hesitate, or how another adult crew member reacts. A written draft can then settle viewpoint and sequence. The roleplay page advertises choice-driven consequences, but that is not measured proof that a particular counter is enforced.
Keep an external copy of the brief and resulting decisions if you move between products. No automatic transfer of account history, state or character definitions is established.
The choice is therefore about the required ending. If an interesting improvised exchange is enough, the documented DreamPress roleplay proposition is relevant. If you need the end to follow a specific condition you author, Rochat supplies more precise published mechanics. Its warning about unexpected state changes still requires a playthrough; more controls do not turn the model into a deterministic engine.
